Establishment Background
Taiwan has long played a leading role in the Mandarin popular music industry, with a rich music creation culture and communication strength that has influenced the Greater China region and even internationally. However, in the face of competition from K-pop, Western music, and the emerging digital music industry, the development of popular music is no longer limited to song creation and production. It now also includes digital music marketing, cross-media communication, broadcasting and podcast management, as well as music performances and curation. As such, how to cultivate professionals with expertise in music content development, digital media operations, and curation has become an important issue for the industry.
To keep pace with this trend, the Department of Communication at Fo Guang University established the "Popular Music Communication and Curation Program," which is the first in Taiwan to combine music content production, digital communication, and music curation into an academic curriculum. This program not only emphasizes the traditional core of the popular music industry, such as music creation, marketing, and brand management, but also integrates broadcasting and podcast production, AI music creation applications, social media marketing, and music performance curation. This approach ensures that students are equipped with the cross-disciplinary expertise required for the future of the music industry. We are committed to cultivating creative, strategic, and digitally skilled professionals in music communication, helping Taiwan continue to shine on the global popular music stage.
